In 2010, García Sayán Abogados, was involved in many important transactions, including the selling of 67 per cent of the stock exchange brokerage house SOLFÍN to Banco Nacional de Bolivia, acting through its stock exchange brokerage company BNB Valores SA Agencia de Bolsa (this is the first investment the Bolivian group makes in Peru); Cencosud Perú SA (as purchaser) in an agreement with the Wong family (as sellers) for the application of the escrow funds related to the purchase made in December 2007 of 100 per cent of the shares of the then existing GSW SA, holding company of the Wong/Metro Group, sale of the shares of Cencosud SA held by the Wong family that took place in the Santiago de Chile Stock Exchange; The Carlyle Group in its investment of up to US$190 million in the industrial fishing corporation China Fishery Group Limited (CFG); representation of four of the major mining companies in the country (Compañía de Minas Buenavetura SAA, Volcán Compañía Minera SAA, Sociedad Minera El Brocal SAA and Minera Explotadora de Vinchos Ltda SAC) in the insolvency proceedings brought against Doe Run Peru SRL in amount exceeding US$35 million; Volcán Compañía Minera on the sale of a portion of its shares for an amount in excess of US$400 million; and, Savia Perú SA in a credit facility of US$100 million granted by Banco Santander (Hong Kong) with the participation of K-Sure, a Korean government agency in its first operation in Peru to guarantee the loan.
García Sayán Abogados has been involved since 2004 in the two most important aircraft accidents of the past 10 years. It has advised a worldwide re-insurance corporation in obtaining settlements without any harm for the client, including cross-border deals.
García Sayán Abogados has also pioneered in community relationship matters by advising Compañía Eléctrica El Platanal in the association with neighbouring communities in a private company to develop sustainable economic activities, such as shrimp farming with Comunidad Campesina de Catahuasi.
The firm has also developed alliances with domestic and international law firms and is the only Peruvian member of MERITAS, a legal service model that offers high quality worldwide legal services through a closely integrated group of full-service law firms.
