Lobo & Ibeas is a leading Brazilian law firm, engaged in the practice of all fields of business law.
Lobo & Ibeas was founded in 1974. However, the founding partners’ professional relationship started long before, in 1960, when they worked together in the legal and financial structuring of the MBR Project for the Caemi Group. This was the major private project in Brazil at the time. The project was a pioneer in the field of project finance, and required the conception of a sophisticated corporate and contractual structure for the implementation of one of the world’s largest iron ore mines, a maritime port and a railroad.
With its permanent group of highly qualified professionals, Lobo & Ibeas renders the broadest and most encompassing legal assistance in business law, observing the highest standards of professional ethics. The services rendered by Lobo & Ibeas include counselling, planning, legal strategic advice, assistance and participation in business negotiations, execution of acts and documents of a legal nature, representation before governmental sectors, defence of clients’ interests in administrative and judicial litigation and in arbitration. The firm’s registered clientele currently includes over 1,000 foreign and national companies.
Lobo & Ibeas has 28 partners and one special consultant. In addition, the firm has 29 associate lawyers and 38 student trainees in the process of internal professional formation. The firm’s administrative staff comprises 60 employees, thus making a total of 147 professionals dedicated to its activities, distributed between offices in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
To maintain the high quality of its services notwithstanding the expansion of the firm’s activities has been the permanent goal of Lobo & Ibeas. Special policies have enabled the firm to attain such goals and have ensured continuity, promptness and creativity in the rendering of legal assistance to its clients.
Emphasis is given to the ability of the firm’s lawyers to work as a real team, thereby sharing their knowledge, experience and specialisation required to deal with the dynamic and ever increasing complexity of business, as well as the continuous legislative and judicial evolution. Lobo & Ibeas has always adopted the policy of internally forming its own body of professionals. Its work force is mainly made up of lawyers who, while attending university, began their careers as student trainees and underwent intensive training at the firm. It is also a policy of Lobo & Ibeas to provide incentives and support to young professionals in the ongoing specialisation and improvement of their skills, including attendance at postgraduate courses abroad. Presently, the firm has several lawyers who have obtained Masters in law abroad, mainly from North American universities. In its offices the firm holds courses, lectures and seminars to stimulate the sharing of knowledge and interaction among its lawyers.
Access of its lawyers to the partnership is another factor which distinguishes Lobo & Ibeas. Admission of partners is restricted to those who have successfully and fully undergone the aforesaid formation process, and have fulfilled pre-determined conditions established on the exclusive basis of professional merit.
The firm’s current clientele includes large enterprises in the mining and steel areas, industries in various sectors – petrochemicals, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, beverage and soft drinks, transportation equipment, heavy-duty equipment, stock exchanges, banks and other financial institutions, corporate and business class associations, investment funds, pension funds, insurance companies, etc. Also included in the list of clients are commercial and service enterprises of a multiple nature, such as department stores, shopping centres, theme parks, hotels, real estate, engineering and civil construction, telecommunications and energy supply, amongst others.
The diversified nature of the firm’s clientele has permitted Lobo & Ibeas to qualify for practising in any and all fields of business law, providing legal services that require higher specialisation. Continuous practice in cases of national and international significance has allowed Lobo & Ibeas to develop wide experience on a variety of subjects and law fields, including general civil and commercial practice, such as: antitrust law; arbitration; business restructuring and reorganisation; capital markets; banking; contract law; corporate law; debt restructuring; environmental law; financing; foreign investments; insurance; intellectual property; labour law; litigation; mergers and acquisitions; mining; energy; privatisations; product liability; public bids; real estate; sports and entertainment; and tax law.
