Main areas of practice

Business & corporate law: The firm routinely advises clients on virtually all aspects of the law affecting corporations, partnerships, joint ventures and non-profit entities. The firm has established the local legal presence of world names such as Cisco Systems, Visa and Accenture.

Taxation: The tax department provides counselling on corporate tax planning and structuring of transactions. Estudio Bergstein maintains a unique expertise on transfer pricing matters. The tax department relies upon a solid group of accountants frequently used by international corporations for the outsourcing of their local and international work.

Banking and securities: The firm assists banking institutions in all sorts of regulatory matters, including advising Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, etc and assisting several foreign banks in the establishment of local offices.

Litigation: Litigation has long been Estudio Bergstein’s core. Several leading cases have been handled by the firm in matters such as unfair competition, antitrust, parallel imports, trademark protection, moral damages and termination of distribution agreements.

Free zones: The firm has strong expertise in the regulatory and tax framework of Uruguay’s free zones. In that capacity the firm provides regular advice to some of the most relevant free zone operators, in areas such as logistics, ports, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and finance.

Labour and immigration: Estudio Bergstein maintains an employment and immigration department fully adjusted to the sophisticated Uruguayan labour laws. The firm has a strong immigration group, which acts as local correspondent for some of the most visible international relocation companies.
