History and philosophy

BSTL was established in 1948, under the name of Hidalgo, Barrera y Siqueiros, during a period of growing commercial and industrial modernisation in Mexico. Founding partners Eduardo Hidalgo, Jorge Barrera-Graf and Jose Luis Siqueiros created the law firm with one ideal in mind: excellence in the rendering of legal services. It was the vision and direction of the founding partners that allowed the firm to gain significant prestige, at both domestic and international levels.

At the beginning of 1970, BSTL adopted its current name with the admission of Juan Jose Torres Landa as a partner. In doing so, the firm consolidated its prestige in the business community and grew steadily, ensuring that all members met strict requirements: professional and academic excellence; commitment to clients; and, most importantly, moral and ethical principles in the practice of the legal profession.

The firm has contributed directly to Mexico’s growth through its participation in the various areas of legal development, always looking to be a leader in the design, implementation and use of new legal tools and practice fields. Accordingly, its members have participated in national and international forum and, as law professors, in the formation of new generations of lawyers, while always keeping ethical and moral values as the basis of the firm’s activity.

In order to satisfy the needs of its clients, BSTL has always taken pride in having lawyers of the highest academic standard. It has supported its members’ law studies and professional experience abroad, while also investing in facilities and equipment that allow an efficient and responsive practice.

With sustained growth in the number of partners, associates, law clerks, paralegals and administrative staff, BSTL has maintained its reputation as one of the leading law firms in Mexico. Key to its success has been the consistency and quality of its legal services, supported as they are by experienced lawyers who interact seamlessly, without cost centres and with full flexibility to serve clients using the best resources available, always. In July 2004, BSTL opened an office in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon – its first outside Mexico City. In doing so, the firm recognised the need for direct services in the two most important cities in Mexico, for both current and future clients.
