Fernando Aguirre B was born in La Paz, Bolivia, in 1943. He was educated at the University of La Paz (Licentiate in Law, Political and Social Sciences and law degree, 1968) and at Oxford University (diploma in Law, 1971). He has been minister secretary general of the presidency of the Republic; director of the Bolivian Central Bank; president of the American Chamber of Commerce of Bolivia; and a professor on International Law at the Diplomatic Academy in Bolivia. During 2009 he was professor of ADR and Arbitration at a Master’s Degree programme in Public International Law at the Catholic University.He has been representative in Bolivia of the International Bar Association and he is a registered arbitrator at the Arbitration Center of the National Chamber of Commerce of Bolivia and past panel arbitrator at ICSID in Washington, DC. He is a member of the La Paz and Santa Cruz Bar Associations. His practice areas are general commercial, corporate and business law, general civil and administrative law, taxation and labour law, mining and hydrocarbons law, banking and financing law and arbitration. As part of his services he acts as chairman of the board of directors of the Bolivian Coca-Cola bottlers’ company and holds similar posts at other companies served by the firm. He actively participates in international business law conferences, at a number of which he has been an active panelist, presenting various papers on Bolivian law issues. He has contributed to specialised legal publications. He speaks Spanish, English and French.
