Alvaro Jana is a BM-AHJ partner with a practice focusing on trade law as well as national and international litigation and arbitration matters. Recently he has been advising Fedeleche, the dairy farmers association, in the application of a provisional safeguard as recognised under the WTO against imports of certain dairy products.
Mr Jana has been chief of the Trade Policy Department/OMC (2002-2003) and legal adviser for the economic complementary agreement between Chile and Colombia and the economic complementary agreement between Chile and Mercosur (2004-2005). He also acted as legal adviser for the commercial defence of the Association of Bird Producers (APA) between 2004 and 2005.
From 2004 to 2006 Mr Jana acted as adviser on tax levied on wheat and corn flour exports for the Association of Center and South Millers and Syndicate of South Poultry Companies; adviser on strategic alliances for the Union of Milk Producers. He is a member of the Chilean Bar Association.
Mr Jana worked in the leading national firm Jana & Cía, Santiago, Chile from 1990 to 2006.
