Mr Chaves is a founding partner of Bofill Mir & Alvarez Jana Abogados, who focuses his practice on white-collar criminal cases, economic and business crimes investigations and complex criminal litigation.

In June, 2007 he co-wrote Legal liability for environmental damages, Revista Ecoamérica (Chile), with Rodrigo Urzúa, also a member of BM-AHJ. In June 2009 he co-wrote The regulation of white collar crime in Chile, Financier Worldwide Corporate Finance Intelligence (AGREGAR PAÍS), with Miguel Schürmann, also a member of BM-AHJ.

Prior to joining Bofill Mir & Alvarez Hinzpeter Abogados he worked with Carlos Balbontín (1989-1994); Nurieldín Hermosilla (1994-1998); Miguel Soto Piñeiro (1998 y 2003); Espina, Zepeda, Acosta, Rodríguez y Tavolari (2004-2006).
