Francisco Ugarte

Partner and co head of Carey y Cía’s corporate, mergers and acquisitions, and capital markets group. His practice consists chiefly of representing international and local clients with various kinds of local and cross-border M&A, including tender offers, stock and asset acquisitions and joint ventures; equity and debt offerings; derivatives; private equity; financings; and corporate restructurings. Mr Ugarte is member of the Chilean Bar Association. From 2001 to 2003, he worked as a foreign associate with the New York law firm Shearman & Sterling in the project development and finance group. He authored the Chilean chapter of Merger Control Worldwide, Cambridge University Press and the Chilean chapter of Essentials of Merger Review, International Antitrust Committee of the ABA. Mr Ugarte studied law at Universidad Católica de Chile and was admitted to the Bar in 1996. He also received a Masters (LLM) from the University of Chicago Law School in 2001.
