Pedro M Muñoz

Partner. His legal expertise is in business law (litigation; corporate; M&A; real estate; trust and estates) and international law (treaty law, trade law, human rights law under the Inter-American and European Systems, the law of the International Court of Justice, and environmental law).

Pedro was in charge of opening the Nicaragua office of FA Arias & Muñoz, but now resides part time in San José and part time in Guanacaste, a province of Costa Rica which is well known for its tourism boom. In Guanacaste, Pedro heads a very active law practice. He has cultivated his real estate practice and has developed a Municipal law and tax practice. During the last months, Mr Muñoz has advised (pro bono) a municipality in Costa Rica in the collection of land taxes and back taxes from a major real estate developer, has advised the seller of a major stock stake in the Nicaraguan incumbent telecom company, as well as a major food production company in the multijurisdictional divestiture of a production line. Pedro has also counseled a buyer in the acquisition of a controlling stake in the land mark hotel and biggest and best known conference center in Costa Rica, and has given local counsel to a major Dutch brewer in the acquisition of a minority stake (25 per cent) in Costa Rica’s largest (really the only) brewery.

Pedro obtained a Masters Degree in Laws and Diplomacy in The Flecther School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, Boston, Massachussets, (Fulbright Scholar 1996). He obtained his Juris Doctor from Law School, Universidad de Costa Rica (1992). He obtained Honor Scholarship, Universidad de Costa Rica (1988, 1990, 1991). His Juris Doctor Degree has been recognised by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua (1998). Mr. Muñoz is authorised as a practising attorney and notary public in Costa Rica (1992).
