Luiz is the lead associate of the firm’s Brazil practice. As a Brazilian senior associate in our international arbitration group, he works with several offices across the firm, advising on contentious and non-contentious matters, relating to our clients’ dispute resolution strategy in Brazil and abroad. He has been mentioned as one of the “lawyers to know” at Freshfields by the Global Arbitration Review’s publication GAR100.

Luiz has acted as counsel, arbitrator and administrative secretary to arbitral tribunals in arbitrations under the auspices of the ICC, LCIA, ICDR (AAA) and UNCITRAL Rules. His experience includes strategic advice and disputes arising out of joint-venture, shareholders, EPC, distribution and other agreements, in a variety of industry sectors, including engineering and construction, telecommunications, oil & gas, railway, insurance, aviation and technology.

Before joining Freshfields Luiz has practiced for a number of years in Brazil as a corporate lawyer at Bulhões Pedreira, Bulhões Carvalho & Advogados Associados and Mundie e Advogados. He holds an MJur degree from the University of Oxford. He is admitted to the Brazilian Bar and has successfully taken the French Bar exam (CAPA, Art. 100). Luiz speaks English, Portuguese, Spanish and French.
